How to Prepare for Locktober: A Practical Chastity Guide

· Locktober Editorial

A week-by-week Locktober prep plan: choose a cage, break it in, practice overnight wear, set keyholder rules, and build a hygiene routine before October 1.

Most failed Locktober attempts aren’t about willpower—they’re about rushing fit, skipping overnight trials, or locking into a painful setup on October 1. Preparation is the unfair advantage.

Locktober prep in one line: choose and test your device weeks ahead, build wear time gradually, practice sleep, set unlock rules, and stop for numbness, discoloration, swelling, or persistent pain.

When to start preparing

Aim for four weeks of runway if you can. Custom or backordered devices can eat shipping time, and you’ll want at least two weeks of daytime practice plus several overnight tests. Starting from scratch in late September is possible—just lower the ambition (shorter sessions, planned unlocks) instead of forcing a full continuous month.

Weeks 4–3: choose gear and measure

  • Measure flaccid length and base-ring circumference carefully—don’t size to an erection.

  • Prefer beginner kits with multiple rings so you can iterate.

  • Decide plastic/resin vs steel based on lifestyle (gym, travel, discretion).

  • Order early; return windows matter when fit is wrong.

Weeks 3–2: short wear and adjustments

  1. First sessions: 1–3 hours during normal activity.

  2. Watch for hotspots, pinching, and ring migration.

  3. Swap ring sizes before you blame the challenge.

  4. Add a second daily session once the first is uneventful.

Week 2–1: overnight and full-day trials

Sleep is where many setups fail. Do at least three overnight trials before October. Then stack a full waking day (~8–12 hours). If you can’t sleep or work through it without distraction, fix the device—don’t white-knuckle into Locktober.

Final days of September: rules and logistics

  • Write keyholder / self-lock rules: unlocks for hygiene, medical, travel, work.

  • Pack a travel hygiene kit: mild soap, soft brush or syringe, towel, spare lock if needed.

  • Confirm emergency key access (spare key with a trusted person, lockbox code, etc.).

  • Agree on check-in language so “I’m done” is respected immediately.

Hygiene routine that survives October

Daily cleaning under warm water with a mild, material-safe soap is the baseline. Rinse thoroughly. Check skin for chafe, odor, or broken skin. Some wearers schedule a full unlock wash every few days even during Locktober—that’s smart risk management, not “cheating.”

Read sexual health & safety for consent and care basics that apply beyond one month.

Solo vs keyholder Locktober

Solo Locktober works if you enjoy self-discipline and tracking. Keyholder Locktober adds erotic structure—but only if communication is solid. Keyholders should know emergency unlock steps and never treat medical distress as a game.

Mindset: sustainable > streak

A modified Locktober you finish healthy beats an unbroken streak that damages skin or trust. Community spaces (like Locktober forums) help with morale; they shouldn’t pressure unsafe wear.
